President Donald Trump has fired Kristi Noem from her role as Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security following contentious hearings on Capitol Hill this week. Trump announced that Noem will leave the position at the end of the month and move into a *new role* as special envoy for a security initiative called “The Shield of the Americas.” Noem had served roughly a year in the role and oversaw several of the administration’s immigration and border enforcement efforts. She also famously shot her dog. Trump also said he plans to nominate Markwayne Mullin as the next Homeland Security Secretary.
