FIFA's 2026 World Cup ball carries a 500Hz sensor. ⚽
TRIONDA, unveiled by FIFA and adidas on October 2, 2025 as the official match ball for the 2026 World Cup, uses connected-ball technology to send live motion data to the video assistant referee system. FIFA says the chip tracks the ball 500 times per second and helps officials identify the exact touch that starts an offside sequence.
That signal is combined with stadium camera tracking of players and the ball, giving VAR a tighter read on passes, deflections and possible handballs. adidas has previously said its connected match-ball sensors use rechargeable batteries charged by induction.
